Instructional Classes & Certifications

RecWell offers American Red Cross (ARC) water and land safety training for students, faculty, staff, and members of the community. Courses may be offered in a traditional classroom setting or a web-based blended learning (BL) option.  As an Authorized Provider, all ARC Safety Classes offered through University Recreation & Wellness are inclusive of Red Cross course fees, materials fees, and required text materials.

The Adventure Program rents out a variety of outdoor equipment so you can adventure on your own! Rental Desk Staff will help you figure out what equipment you need and show you how to use it. 

Climbing Wall & Bouldering Grotto

The University of Maryland's 55-foot tall freestanding climbing wall is one of the tallest on the East Coast. 

Bike Shop

A one stop shop for all your biking needs on campus

The RecWell Bike Shop is a student-powered bike shop providing free bike repair and education for all UMD students, faculty, and staff. The shop also rents commuter and mountain bikes, hosts bike maintenance classes and group rides, and has a limited inventory of bike parts and safety equipment for sale. Adventure Trips

Get Out of College Park and Explore the Outdoors

Trips hosted by the Adventure Program are a great opportunity to learn new outdoor skills, travel, and meet new people. Unless otherwise stated, all trips are designed as introductory experiences and no previous experience is required. Trained trip leaders will teach you the basics of what you need to know in order to recreate outdoors.

Outdoor Aquatic Center

The Outdoor Aquatic Center, located on the west end of Eppley Recreation Center, is a vibrant and fun space for aquatic activities under the sun. From lap swimming to sand volleyball, or simply relaxing on the pool deck the OAC is a great place to be active during warm weather months. A RecWell membership or facility rental is required to access the Outdoor Aquatic Center.
