Club Sports
Community and leadership through sport
Club Sports are student organizations, recognized by the Student Government Association (SGA). The Club Sports staff of University Recreation & Wellness oversees and advises all club sports.
Clubs offer opportunities for developing friendships, building leadership skills, learning a new sport, and improving existing sport skills. Many clubs compete against other universities, both on a regional and national level.
RecWell supports 47 club teams and countless opportunities to play, compete and lead.
- Currently enrolled UMD undergraduate students
- Currently enrolled UMD graduate students
- Currently employed UMD faculty and staff
- Current members of the Maryland Alumni Association (no more than 10% of the Club roster may be Alumni)
- University Affiliates and Shady Grove students are not eligible to join a club sport team
- Competitive eligibility is based on each team's governing body regulations
Clubs do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, personal appearance, age, national origin, political affiliation or physical/mental disability.
If you are interested in joining a sport club , the first step is to email the appropriate club contact for additional information. You might consider asking them about club culture, team organization, and social opportunities, as well as details like practice times, locations, and fees.
In addition, most clubs have websites and/or social media sites which are accessible through the club directory.
Being a club officer requires attention to detail and organizational skills. The resources required to effectively support your team are all in one place for your convenience
Meet Our Clubs
If you are thinking about joining a club, but not sure where to start - come out and meet us! Club teams will be at the First Look Fair and will host interest meetings throughout the first few weeks of the semester. You can also stop by the Club Sport Suite on Level 0 of the Eppley Recreation Center for more information.
Support our Clubs
Although our clubs are primarily funded by SGA, they often rely on fundraising to travel to national tournaments, purchase equipment, and advance their level of play. Consider supporting our club program so more students can enjoy the benefits of participation.
