Adventure trips are the perfect way to get out of College Park and take a break from the hustle and bustle of campus. Trips are designed with beginners in mind, and trained trip leaders will teach you the necessary outdoor skills and support you throughout the trip. All trips include cost of transportation, equipment, and any camping or park entrance fees. Try your hand at paddling, climbing, backpacking, biking, or caving - whatever your interest, we’ve got an adventure for you!
The Bike Shop is a student-powered bike shop located in the Jones-Hill House that provides free bike repair and maintenance service to all UMD students, faculty, and staff. The RecWell Bike shop also sells bicycle repair and safety gear, teaches instructional bike maintenance clinics, and rents commuter and mountain bikes by the day, week, or semester. Stop by to see how we can get you riding today!
The challenge course offers custom team-building programs to University of Maryland and community groups. These programs vary in length and focus depending on the group's goals and the amount of time a group has for programming. Activities options include name games and icebreakers, team initiatives, low ropes team challenges, and climbing on our Alpine Tower or High Ropes course.
The climbing wall towers 55 feet and offers climbing on 11 different routes in addition to our bouldering grotto. The wall offers something for everybody with a variety of climbing options from beginner to advanced. Trained staff are available to lend a hand, and harnesses, helmets, and shoes are all available to borrow for free. If you’re looking for a way to work on your physical wellness, give yourself a mental challenge, or change up your workout routine, the wall may be just the place for you!
The Adventure Program hosts a number of clinics and classes each semester to help Terps learn technical skills and build confidence for adventuring in the outdoors. Learn how to cook over a campfire, belay at the climbing wall, take care of your bike, roll a kayak, and more.
We can help you plan your own outdoor adventure trip! Our knowledgeable staff can help you plan the logistics of your adventure and can help you get the gear you need for your adventure. Tents, backpacks, sleeping bags, and much more are available to rent by the day, weekend, or week.
