Become a Sports Official

Intramural Sports hires officials throughout the academic year. Each semester offers different opportunities to officiate. 

Fall Semester Sports to officiate:

• 7v7 Soccer
• 4v4 Volleyball
• 7v7 Flag Football

Spring Semester Sports to officiate:

• 5v5 Basketball
• 11v11 Soccer
• 6v6 Volleyball

Officials are welcomed to play and officiate during the same season (in fact, most of officials do just that). We are happy to accommodate your playing schedule so you can work and play during the same season. 

Many of our officials are also active in the Maryland Student Officials Association (MSOA).  MSOA members can earn extra money by refereeing non-Intramural leagues on and off campus!

We’ll teach you the skills you need to be a sports official!

Although previous experience playing a sport is helpful to becoming an official, it is not required. All Intramural Sports Officials are required to participate in a hybrid officials' training program (online and in person) prior to the start of the season. Additionally, officials attend in-season training sessions and receive regular feedback and evaluation from our staff.

• Starting pay is $15.80 per hour.
• Schedules are flexible - most officials work 7-10 hours a week, with options to work 20+ hours during some sport seasons.
