All UMD students must purchase a non-registered student membership to have access to RecWell facilities/ programs during the Summer 2021 semester. Students may purchase summer session 2 for $30 beginning July 12th.

Fitness is a journey, not a destination

Personal Training at RecWell offers the opportunity to meet with a nationally certified personal trainer in-person or virtually. Work with our team to refine or define your fitness goals, be held accountable, stay motivated, and learn how to exercise safely and effectively with purpose.  Personal Training Plus (PT+) packages offer nutrition coaching sessions in additional to personal training sessions. Personal training is open to all levels of physical ability and fitness experience.

Personal Training Packages

Personal Training services offer individual and partner training with nationally certified trainers. Clients work 1-on-1 with trainers to set goals, form lifelong habits, learn proper exercise form, and to build an effective workout that is tailored to your needs. Team training (2 clients with 1 trainer) is also available for prospective clients who want to train with a friend. Exercising with a partner offers accountability, encouragement, and fun! The team trianing package prices represent the total price for the package, not per person. Sessions can be completed in-person or virtually via video conferencing.

PT+ Packages

Personal Training Plus (PT+) is a team approach that matches a client up with both a RecWell Personal Trainer and a University Health Center Peer Nutrition Coach to work with you on exercise and healthy eating goals working with you to accomplish your exercise and healthy eating goals. PT+ packages are only sold September through April each year. Due to COVID-19 staffing limitations, nutrition coaching sessions will he held virtually Thursdays and Fridays between 9:00am - 3:00pm.

What protocols have been implemented as a result of COVID-19? Toggle Accordion
  1. Virtual personal training: Personal training sessions can now happen virtually! RecWell personal trainers can meet with you through video conferencing to take you through workouts.

  2. Private personal training studio: Clients can now work out in a private suite within the Eppley Recreation Center. The space is equipped with dumbbells, kettlebells, barbells, an exercise bike, and various functional training equipment. This space can be booked in advance by your trainer and is secluded from other patrons.

  3. Cleaning: All high touch surfaces within RecWell spaces are disinfected at least every 2 hours. All patrons are given a spray bottle and cleaning rag for additional cleaning.

  4. Social distancing and face coverings: Personal trainers will remain 6 feet away whenever possible and wear a face covering at all times. Personal training clients must also wear a face covering at all times.

UMD students, RecWell members and UMD Limited Access Members may purchase personal training and personal training plus sessions.

What can I expect from my personal trainer or nutrition coach? Toggle Accordion

RecWell Personal Trainers (undergraduate and graduate students) are NCAA-accredited nationally certified trainers who are passionate about helping you achieve your fitness goals.You can expect your trainer to help you define your fitness goals, construct an exercise program to help you achieve them, and help motivate you to stick to your program. 

University Health Center Nutrition Coaches (undergraduate students) are senior dietetic students supervised by the campus Registered Dietitian.  Coaches will work with you to asses your eating patterns, set realistic goals, and help you develop a pattern of eating that will support your goals today and in the future. 

How can I pay for personal training packages? Toggle Accordion

All Personal Training package fees are due at the time of purchase online or in person. Cash, check or credit card are accepted. Payroll deduction is not an option. 

When do personal training and personal training plus sessions expire? Toggle Accordion

All sessions expire 4 months from the date you are paired with your personal trainer via email. For special circumstances, please contact Kevin Yang (kfyang@umd.edu).

Where do personal training and nutrition coaching sessions take place? Toggle Accordion

In-person personal training sessions can be held in the Eppley Recreation Center (ERC), Ritchie Coliseum, or the School of Public Health (SPH). Virtual Personal Training is also an option, enabling you to engage in sessions with your trainer from the comfort of your own home through video conferencing. Nutrition coaching sessions will take place virtually via video conferencing.

How long are personal training sessions? Toggle Accordion

Each personal training session is one hour, and consists of a warm-up, exercise segment, and cool-down.
