Know Before You Go!
1. Reservations: To limit the number of participants in each class and to limit having to turn participants away, reservations are required for each group fitness and small group training class through the IMLeagues app. Please visit recwell.umd.edu/reservations to learn more. Reservations are not required for virtual fitness classes.
2. Physical distancing: Individual participant spots are marked in our group fitness spaces to ensure physical distance is kept. Marked spots exceed the CDC guidelines for recommended physical distancing. There will be no partner, group, or circuit style workouts in fitness classes.
3. Equipment cleanliness: All participants using equipment in classes will be issued their own spray bottle and cleaning rag before entering class. Participants should clean all equipment they touch before and after use. Instructors will clean floors between classes. Equipment will not be shared between participants during class. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own exercise/yoga mats to classes. Mats will NOT be provided to participants this semester.
4. Face coverings: Participants in group fitness and small group training classes will be required to wear face coverings. It is recommended that participants bring an additional face covering with them in case the primary face covering becomes damp or wet. The best face coverings to utilize while being physically active are made of two layers of synthetic, breathable materal.
RecWell Fitness offers a variety of mind-body, land and cycling classes. This Fall 2020 semester, there are over 130+ classes per week offered in-person and virtual. A minimum of 2 participants is required to hold an in-person class.
Group fitness classes are included in student fees and in all paid RecWell memberships. The free Limited Access Membership for faculty/staff does not include group fitness classes.
You will need to make a reservation through IMLeagues to attend any in-person group fitness or small group training class beginning Fall 2020. Please download the IMLeagues app to make your reservations. You will receive a QR code for each reservation you make. The QR code will be scanned before entering each group fitness or small group training class. This reservation process allows for a countactless check-in process and ensures you have a spot in each class you sign-up for. You can register for classes starting at 6am the day before a class is scheduled. Visit recwell.umd.edu/reservations to learn more. No registration is required for virtual fitness classes.
In Fall 2020, RecWell fitness classes are being held in the Eppley Recreation Center (ERC) Fitness Studio, the ERC Training Studio, the ERC West Gym, Regents Drive Cycling Studio, Ritchie Coliseum Gymnasium, Ritchie Functional Training Zone (FTZ), as well as outdoors on La Plata Beach. Virtual fitness classes will be held on our UMD Fitness YouTube channel.
Face coverings must be worn in all group fitness and small group training classes. It is suggested to bring an extra face covering to utilize should your primary face covering become damp or wet. Workout attire (breathable clothing that allows movement) and athletic shoes are also required. Yoga and Barre classes do not require shoes.
Your IMLeagues reservation QR code, your primary and back-up face covering, a water bottle, a personal yoga/exercise mat is suggested, and a smile! Due to space constraints, we do not allow bags/jackets into our group fitness and small group training spaces (except Regents). Please secure these in a personal locker. Locks can be checked out for free at the ERC Equipment Issue Desk or the front desk in Ritchie Coliseum.
To uphold physical distancing protocols, please do not arrive to your reserved classes more than 5 minutes early (10 minutes is allowed for BodyPump). If you have a reservation through IMLeagues for a class, you are guaranteed a spot. For participant safety, no one will be admitted into any class after it begins.
RecWell fitness program staff are nationally certified group fitness instructors and personal trainers. Many instructors also hold speciality certifications in Yoga (RYT), Zumba®, Les Mills™ formats, Barre and more.
Yes, a private group fitness class can be requested by registered student organizations or UMD departments for their group. The cost of private classes is based on organization status and requested location. Private classes in RecWell facility spaces need to be requested at times that do not conflict with regularly scheduled group fitness classes.
