Group Fitness and Small Group Training Classes

Do I need to register for a group fitness or small group training class? Toggle Accordion

Yes. Registration is required for all fitness classes through the IMLeagues app, which will provide you with a QR code. You will use the QR code to check-in at each fitness class. No one will be allowed to participate in fitness classes without registering. You can register for classes beginning at 6am the day before classes are scehduled to take place. 

Is there a minimum number of participants needed to hold a group fitness class? Toggle Accordion

Yes, a minimum of 2 participants are needed to hold a group fitness class. If minimum participation is not reached, the class will be canceled.

How early should I arrive to a fitness class? Toggle Accordion

Arrive just 5 minutes before class (10 minutes allowed for BodyPump) to avoid gatherings and help ensure physical distancing. For participant safety, no one will be admitted into any fitness classes after it has begun.

What do I need to bring to class? Toggle Accordion

Please ensure you have your IMLeagues registration QR code, a water bottle, your face covering (we recommend an extra to swap if the primary face covering becomes damp or wet), and we highly recommend your own personal exercise/yoga mat.

Fitness Assessments

Do I have to be a member of RecWell to purchase a fitness assessment? Toggle Accordion

Yes, fitness assessment testing is only offered to RecWell members and UMD students. However, non-members may purchase a Bod Pod® body composition assessment.

How accurate is a Bod Pod® test? Toggle Accordion

The bod pod test is accurate to within 1% of hydrostatic weighing (the gold standard for body composition testing). The test uses the same volume displacement ideals but with air instead of water. The entire test takes 30-45 minutes.

Cardio + Weight Training

How many laps around the ERC track are equal to 1-mile? Toggle Accordion

10 laps = 1 mile

Is Olympic weightlifting permitted at RecWell? Toggle Accordion

Only certain types of Olympic lifts are permitted (squats and deadlifts). All other explosive/overhead movements are NOT permitted due to space constraints and safety concerns.

Is chalk permitted in weight facilities? Toggle Accordion

No chalk or liquid grip may be used in RecWell weight/fitness facilities.

Do I need a reservation to workout in the fitness, weight, and functional training areas? Toggle Accordion

Yes. All patrons need to make a reservation through the IMLeagues app. You can reserve a spot in your desired location beginning at 6am the day before. You must check-in using the reservation QR code. No one will be permitted to workout without a reservation. You can cancel your reservation up to one hour before the reservation begins.

What types of shoes are permitted in weight and fitness spaces? Toggle Accordion

Athletic-type shoes with closed toes are recommended for all weight and fitness spaces. Barefoot training is not permitted in weight rooms or on any cardiovascular machine.
