All rentals include rental of a U-lock.
Patrons are responsible for returning rental bikes in the same condition as they were when they were rented out. Additional fees may be charged if cleaning or repair are required. A replacement fee ($250.00 for hybrids / $600.00 for mountain bikes) will be charged for lost or stolen rental bikes.
Contactless Bike Rental Procedures:
- Once a rental is approved and payment secured, the rented bicycle will be inspected for proper working and then locked using a combination lock at the rack outside of STAMP Student Union across the street.
- The Bike Shop staff will send a photo of the locked bicycle and email it, along with the bike number and combination, to the renter to pick up.
- The renter will retrieve their bicycle and the lock. Users are responsible for keeping the bike and lock.
On the designated return date before 4pm, the renter will lock the bicycle up at the same location using the same lock.
The renter will take a photo of the bicycle and the bicycle number, and email the Bike Shop staff confirming the return of the bicycle.
The Bike Shop staff will later retrieve the bicycle, disinfect and inspect it for damage, and email the renter informing of the successful return. If any fees need to be applied, the staff will inform and schedule a payment call at that time.
Walk-in service is available for all UMD students, faculty, and staff. Student mechanics will work with you to do basic repair and maintenance on your bike; they will not work on your bike for you. All service is free, but you must be present and involved in the process.
Some advanced or exceedingly time-consuming repairs may be beyond the scope of what our student mechanics are trained to do. In these cases, you may be referred to a local, professional bike shop.
