Test your limits & explore new territory
The Adventure Program provides student-powered adventure experiences that promote personal growth, transformative learning, social responsibility, and environmental stewardship to the University of Maryland community.
We offer adventure trips off campus, top rope climbing and bouldering at the Climbing Wall, team building on the Challenge Course, equipment rental for your personal adventures, and bike maintenance and parts to get you back out on the road.
The Adventure Program rental desk and resource center are located in the lower level of the Eppley Recreation Center. The entrance is near lot SS2. If at the main entrance to the ERC, go down the stairs between the ERC and the Outdoor Aquatic Center. The door to the Adventure Program will be on your right.
The challenge course is designed to offer custom team-building programs to University of Maryland and community groups. These programs can vary in length and focus depending on group goals and the amount of time a group has for programming. Activities can include name games and icebreakers, team initiatives, low ropes team challenges, and climbing on our Alpine Tower or High Ropes course.
The climbing wall towers 55 feet and offers climbing on 11 different routes in addition to our bouldering grotto. Trained staff are on hand to belay or point you in the right direction, and if you already have the skills down, you can check in with the staff during open hours to take a belay test. The wall is set with routes ranging from beginning to advanced so there are options for everyone. Harnesses, helmets, and shoes are all available to borrow for free. If you’re looking for a way to work on your physical wellness, give yourself a mental challenge, or change up your workout routine, the wall may be just the place for you!
Adventure trips are the perfect way to get out of College Park and take a break from the hustle and bustle of campus. Trips are designed with beginners in mind, and trained trip leaders will teach you the necessary outdoor skills and support you throughout the trip. All trips include cost of transportation, equipment, and any camping or park entrance fees. Try your hand at paddling, climbing, backpacking, biking, or caving - whatever your interest, we’ve got an adventure for you!
The Adventure Program hosts a number of clinics and classes to help members of the UMD community learn technical skills for adventuring in the outdoors. Whether you want to learn how to cook over a campfire or wilderness medicine, we’ve got something for you!
