Provide service to walk-up and telephone customers at the Adventure Program. Tasks include: renting, cleaning, and repairing equipment, assisting Resource Center users, and answering questions.
Plan, organize, and lead outdoor adventure trips, varying from day hikes to extended expeditions. Some trip experience preferred and completion of the HESI318T academic course.
Help members of the UMD community with bicycle repairs in a collaborative and educational environment. Assist with various bicycle events and initiatives sponsored through RecWell Adventure Program.
Support general high ropes functions, instruct and monitor challenge course and ropes activities.
Support general climbing wall functions, instruct and monitor climbing wall and bouldering grotto activities.
Provide service to facility patrons, enforce admissions policies and facility rules, issue equipment, and answer phones and questions.
Assist with retail sales, membership sales, and transactions for course play.
Teach basic and advanced group exercise classes, such as step aerobics, group cycling, cardio-boxing, Body Pump, Zumba, and yoga. Teaching experience preferred.
Officiate intramural basketball, flag football, soccer, and/or volleyball games. No experience necessary, as training is provided. Students are able to officiate and play during the same sport season.
Provide service to visitors and customers; assist with program registration, answer phones, and assist professional staff with administrative duties.
Provide operational support for all RecWell facilities and programs ensuring a safe, operational, and aesthetically pleasing environment. Work includes, but is not limited to: repair, maintenance, and cleaning of all weight/fitness equipment, maintenance of all outdoor facilities, and special event support. Experience using hand tools and outdoor maintenance equipment is helpful but not necessary; training is provided.
Develop individualized exercise programs and work one-on-one with people during their fitness training sessions. Motivate and educate participants on proper exercise techniques and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. A nationally recognized Personal Training certification is required.
Provide a safe and pleasant atmosphere for swimmers, monitor and regulate water chemistry, and operate the pool mechanical systems. Certified Pool Operator license is required.
Teach basic strokes, rules, and scoring. Playing experience required; teaching experience preferred.
Prepare course outlines and lesson plans, ensure safety of participants, complete course records, and teach all classes according to RecWell and American Red Cross standards. Teaching experience is required; Red Cross WSI certification is preferred.
Maintain a safe and enjoyable weight/fitness facility environment by enforcing weight/fitness facility rules, cleaning equipment, and answering basic questions about how to use RecWell strength and cardio equipment.
