What is Functional Fitness?

Functional Fitness is about training your body to handle real-life situations. Whether that is improving your basketball game, moving furniture with ease, hiking with efficiency or being able to walk across campus briskly…. Functional fitness training is intended to help you live better! Functional fitness training focuses upon using body weight, gravity, agility and balance to build a body capable of doing real-life activities in real-life positions, not just lifting a certain amount of weight in an idealized posture created by a gym machine. 

Functional Training Studio (FTS)

Located in the Eppley Recreation Center, the Functional Training Studio contains independent fitness tools and dedicated open space to allow for functional fitness training. The studio is open for informal recreation except for designated small group personal training workouts (FREE!)

The FTS provides a private environment with independent training tools. If you are seeking additional training on the equipment, consider purchasing personal training sessions or view Functional Training 101 on our YouTube channel.

Functional Training Zone (FTZ)

Located in Ritchie Coliseum, the Functional Training Zone contains independent fitness tools and dedicated open space to allow for functional fitness training. The zone is open for informal recreation except for designated small group personal training workouts (FREE!)

The FTZ provides a body-weight training, open-space environment with independent training tools. If you are seeking additional training on the equipment, consider purchasing personal training sessions or view Functional Training 101 on our YouTube channel.

Functional Training Studio

LOCATION
The Functional Training Studio is located on level 0 in the Eppley Recreation Center.

New this spring! The Functional Training Zone is located on level LL of Ritchie Coliseum.

Both facilities are open during facility hours of operation and are open to all students and RecWell members. 


Functional Training Small Group Workouts

Functional Training Bootcamp
Challenge yourself and try something new with this 55-minute bodyweight, plyometric, suspension-based, functional fitness group workout. Led by RecWell personal trainers/ group fitness instructors.
Kettlebell Workout

Join RecWell personal trainers/ fitness instructors for a kettlebell circuit workout that will focus on form, technique and making you stronger swing by swing!
TRX
Workout

Take hold of the latest fitness trend, TRX is the cutting edge of endurance and strength training. TRX stands for total resistance exercise and in this workout will be used to provide a total body workout using your body weight and gravity.
