All University of Maryland students are members during the semesters and summer sessions in which they are registered and pay the recreation fee. 

Fall 2016:  August 29 – December 23
Spring 2017:  January 3 – May 29

Benefits of a University Recreation & Wellness (RecWell) Membership

Your University Recreation & Wellness (RecWell) membership includes access to all RecWell facilities and programs. You can work out at the Eppley Recreation Center (ERC), Ritchie Coliseum, Reckord Armory, or the School of Public Health Building (SPH).

As a member, you will receive discounts on RecWell Community and Aquatic Programs including:


  • Learn to Swim
  • First Aid/CPR
  • Tennis Lessons
  • Special Event registration
  • Maryland Adventure Program trips
  • Adventure equipment rentals
Equipment is available for short-term checkout at the ERC, Ritchie Coliseum and the Armory. Picnic and outdoor equipment can be rented at the Outdoor Recreation Center. Late and damage fees will be assessed as appropriate.

Lockers in the ERC and Ritchie locker rooms can be rented for $35/semester or $90/year. Box lockers located in the hallways on levels 2 & 0 of the ERC can be rented for $15/semester. Free day-use lockers are also available in most RecWell facilities. Bring your own lock to secure your belongings. Day use locks are cut off at closing each day. A storage fee is charged for belongings left in day-use lockers.

Bath towels for use at the ERC may be rented at the Equipment Issue Desk for $1/day. Daily towel service can be purchased at the Member Services Desk for $25/semester or $65/year.

Guest Passes can be purchased for $7/day and used in any facility, but they are only available at the Member Services Desk in the ERC. Generally, students and University Recreation & Wellness (RecWell) members may sponsor two guests per day. To accommodate families, a student or RecWell member may sponsor up to three minor children (under 18 years of age) and/or two parent guests. At the time of purchase, the sponsoring member must present a current UM student photo ID or current RecWell membership card. All guests 16 years of age and older must present a photo ID.

University Recreation & Wellness (RecWell) racquetball, squash, and wallyball courts may be reserved online. Courts may still be reserved in person at the ERC Information Desk, or by calling 301-226-4500. Reservations (1 court/ hour/person, 2 hours for wallyball) can be made up to 3 days in advance. Courts must be claimed in person at the Information Desk before 10 minutes after the hour. Courts will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis.

For non-registered students in the summer, the cost of a membership is $30/ per session or $60 for the full summer.

**There is no fee for faculty/staff to use SPH and the Armory.  University of Maryland faculty and staff have the option to obtain a University Recreation & Wellness (RecWell) Membership through the use of payroll deduction.

****Students that were registered during the Spring 2016 semester are eligible for Non-Registered Student memberships for Summer 2016.

MPowering the State: All fee-paying students at UMB and UMCP have access to both campuses' recreational facilities during scheduled hours of operation and are allowed to use those facilities at no added cost. Current staff and faculty who possess valid recreational facilities membership at their home institution also have access to both recreational facilities. UMB employees must purchase membership at the Southern Management Corporation Campus Center and UMCP employees must purchase membership at the Eppley Recreation Center. UMB alumni and UMCP Alumni Association Members may purchase membership at either facility but it only allows access to the facility at which the membership was purchased. Alumni membership is not transferable.
