RecWell Student Employee Scholarship

University Recreation & Wellness Mission Statement:  University Recreation & Wellness to enrich the educational experience and encourage personal growth by inspiring the university community to be active and live well.

The University Recreation & Wellness Employee Scholarship was established to provide financial assistance in the amount of $500 for tuition and books to two (2) undergraduate student employees who uphold this mission statement in their work with University Recreation & Wellness at the University of Maryland.

Who is eligible to apply?

University of Maryland, College Park students who:
• Are current employees of University Recreation & Wellness;
• Have been employed by University Recreation & Wellness for two or more semesters;
• Are pursuing an undergraduate degree at the University of Maryland, College Park;
• Have a cumulative grade-point average of 2.75 at the time of application; and,
• Are enrolled as a full-time student (12 or more credits).

What criteria will be considered for awarding the RecWell Student Employee Scholarship?

• Compelling, thoughtful, genuine, and thorough responses
• Expected graduation date
• Accuracy of a fully completed application

James Kehoe/Ethel Kessler Award

University Recreation & Wellness exists to enrich the educational experience and encourage personal growth by inspiring the university community to be active and live well.   

The James H. Kehoe (Men’s Intramural Sports Director, 1947-69) and Ethel Kesler (Women’s Intramural Sports Director, 1956-81) Service and Leadership Awards are presented by University Recreation & Wellness undergraduate or graduate student who has demonstrated the highest degree of encouraging and inspiring the university community to be active and live well.

The Kehoe/Kesler Awards are the most prestigious given by University Recreation & Wellness.  The award is given to the individual who encourages and inspires the university community to be active and live well.  Nominees should immediately come to mind as people respected by their peers, undergraduate or graduate volunteer, participant, advocate, or employee with University Recreation & Wellness.  Nominations are welcomed from students, faculty/staff, and RecWell members/participants.

Criteria: 
Demonstration of encouraging and inspiring the university community to be active and live well.  
Respected by peers for leadership qualities and innovation.
Demonstrated reliability and a willingness to contribute to being active and serving as a role model for healthy living.
Motivation to do things on their own initiative
Minimum Cumulative GPA of 2.75
